Dutch
artist Jan Hendrix has been awarded the Order of the Aztec Eagle, the highest
Mexican decoration awarded to foreigners.
Jan
Hendrix, who has been living and working in Mexico since 1978, was awarded the
decoration for his achievements in art and architecture.
Hendrix’s
visual and graphic art has been on display in galleries around the world. The
Dutchman has also collaborated with numerous architects and authors, including
W. G. Sebald, Gabriel García Márquez and compatriot Bert Schierbeek.
KLM CEO
Peter Hartman was awarded the Order of the Aztec Eagle because of the
long-lasting relationship between the North American country and the former Dutch
national airline, which has been flying to Mexico without interruption for more
than 60 years.
Queen
Beatrix, Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Máxima received the Order
in 2009 during their state visit to Mexico.
